In December 2025, the GEVA project, in collaboration with Mr. Bui Khanh Tung, M.Sc. – Deputy Director of the Center for Organic Agriculture Development Support, conducted a field survey at Trung Nghia Macadamia Co., Ltd., a company developing macadamia nut production and processing in the Central Highlands region.
Trung Nghia Macadamia operates and manages the entire value chain—from sourcing raw materials locally, grading and primary processing, to distributing products in the domestic market. Guided by the philosophy of “farmers working with farmers,” the company aims to enhance the value of local agricultural products through a transparent, connected, and sustainable production model.
The field survey revealed that the company’s raw material areas are facing multiple challenges. Macadamia trees are currently intercropped mainly with coffee, while cultivation techniques remain relatively basic. Meanwhile, climate change, pests, and heavy rains have had a significant impact on crop growth. Uncertainty among farmers has led some households to consider removing macadamia trees, posing a potential risk of supply chain disruption.
Experts recommended strengthening technical communication and organizing training activities to gradually change farmers’ perceptions. Macadamia is not only an easy-to-grow and low-risk crop, but also has strong potential to become a sustainable livelihood if properly invested in. At the same time, the company was advised to develop its product chain in alignment with international sustainable agriculture standards such as Rainforest Alliance, thereby enhancing product value and access to export markets.
